Along with building the famous log cabin in around 1938, the scouts and leaders constructed a grand, heavy-timber entrance archway declaring “MOE SCOUT GROUP” at the site.

Built in the same rugged, pioneering style as the cabin itself, the gateway quickly became an iconic landmark for local Scouting. Historic photos from the era capture large gatherings of families, townspeople, and scouts in full uniform arriving through the wooden archway for rallies, open days, and district events—showing just how much of a lively community hub the log cabin site had become.

While we have these incredible historic photographs showcasing the magnificent timber craftsmanship of the gateway, its full story remains a bit of a mystery to us. We don’t currently know the exact year it was constructed, who engineered the build, or all the stories behind those early gatherings under the archway.
