If you ask the average person what Scouting looks like, chances are they’ll describe an image straight out of 1974—campfires in deep forests, vintage badges, and mystery behind closed hall doors. Most Victorians have rarely seen modern Scouting happen in real time.
This year, Scouts Victoria is changing that narrative with ScoutFest 2026!
The concept is simple yet powerful: on Saturday, August 1st, Scouts across the state are stepping out of private campsites and hall meeting rooms to bring Scouting into the open. We’re rolling up our sleeves, putting on our uniforms, and filling local parks, footpaths, and main streets so our communities can see what modern Scouting is really all about.
Here in the Mt Baw Baw District, we are combining this statewide celebration with a massive local milestone: 100 Years of Scouting in Moe!

🚀 What’s Happening on the Day?
We have an action-packed lineup of activities running throughout the event. Whether you’re five or fifteen (or a kid at heart), there’s something for everyone to try:
🪁 Craft Kite Building & Flying
Tailored especially for our younger Joey Scouts (but open to everyone!), youth members can build, customize, and fly their own kites right in Apex Park.
🪵 Campfire & Fire Drum Cooking
Nothing says Scouting like open-fire treats! Our Cub Scouts will be running fire drum cooking stations where you can learn to twist fresh damper on stick and toast classic, gooey s’mores.
🏗️ Pioneering & Flag Pole Building
Watch our Scouts put their lashings and knot-tying skills to work as they construct full-scale pioneering structures and display group flags with pride.
🧗 Rock Climbing Wall & Abseiling Tower
Looking for an adrenaline rush? Assisted by our older Venturers and Rovers, we’ll be running a mobile climbing wall and abseiling tower open across sections for anyone ready to reach new heights.
🎯 Target Practice: Hatchet Throwing
For Joeys and Cubs, we’ll have safe plastic hatchet throwing stations to test hand-eye coordination and accuracy.
📜 100th Anniversary Historical Display
Take a step back through time! Moe Rivers is celebrating a century of local adventure with a showcase of historic photographs, gear, memorabilia, and group displays.
🌭 Classic Community BBQ
No community day is complete without a hot sausage sizzle! Grab lunch at the BBQ while catching up with local leaders and families.
🤝 Bring a Friend & Get Involved!
ScoutFest 2026 is the ultimate Bring a Friend Day. If you know a family interested in outdoor skills, leadership, teamwork, and adventure, invite them along to experience the fun firsthand.
- Youth Members: Wear your full Scout uniform proudly on the day!
- Parents & Helpers: Groups are encouraged to bring their named gazebos, setup displays, and engage adult supporters and contributors—extra hands are always welcome!
Come down to Apex Park on Saturday, August 1st, grab a sausage, scale the climbing wall, and see how 100 years of local Scouting is building the adventure of tomorrow.
See you there!
