What an incredible day of adventure, skill-building, and community spirit! On World Scout Day 2026, around 100 vibrant youth members gathered for Scoutfest, bringing together five fantastic Scout Groups from across our district: Moe, Newborough, Warragul, Trafalgar, and Drouin. We were also thrilled to welcome several new faces who came along as part of our “Bring a Friend” initiative!

The morning kicked off in true iconic style—just as we gathered to break the flag, a classic steam train rolled past, setting an adventurous tone for the rest of the day.

Action-Packed Activities Across the Sections

Our leaders put on an amazing lineup of hands-on activities that kept energy levels soaring all day long:

• Joey & Cub Scouts:
  • Kite Making: Led by District Leader Joey Scouts Ebony Healey, our younger sections crafted and decorated their own kites to catch the breeze.
  • Camp Cooking Skills: District Leader Cub Scouts Carol Asbock taught the essential outdoor art of making delicious damper twists and gooey s’mores over the fire.
  • Hatchet Skills: Under the supervision of District Activities Leader Stacey Cook, youth practiced safe hatchet handling and throwing techniques.
• Scout Section Challenge:
  • Flagpole Design & Construction Competition: Led by District Leader Scouts Chris Reeves, the Scout section put their pioneering and engineering skills to the test.
  • The Winners: Congratulations to Moe Rivers Scout Group, who took home the award for Best Flagpole! Their impressive “Gateway” design and intricate knotwork stood out to the judges.
• High-Flying Thrills:
  • Everyone had the opportunity to scale new heights on the Mobile Climbing Tower, expertly managed by District Commissioner Steve Asbock alongside the State Abseiling Team.

Celebrating 100 Years of Local Scouting History

This year’s Scoutfest was extra special for Moe Rivers Scout Group, who are celebrating a remarkable 100 Years of Scouting in the Moe area! Attendees had the chance to step back in time and explore a wonderful memorabilia display showcasing a century of local Scouting heritage, photos, and gear.

To top off an already fantastic afternoon, we were honored by a visit from the Mayor of Latrobe City, Cr Sharon Gibson, who stopped by to meet the youth, view the activities, and celebrate this incredible community milestone with us.
